Phrotator
Phrotator is a broadband phase rotator built for precise phase alignment. It rotates the entire signal by the same phase angle without changing its frequency balance, making it especially useful for multi-mic recordings, DI/amp combinations, and parallel chains.
Instead of choosing between normal and inverted polarity, you get the full 0–360° circle to find the phase relationship that works for the track.
Controls
- Phase
0 to 360 degrees. 0° passes the signal unchanged, 180° is a polarity inversion, and everything in between is a continuous phase rotation.

Latency-matched bypass for clean A/B comparisons without shifting the timing or losing your Phase setting.
How it behaves
Phase is a position, not a level. 270° is not “more” than 180° — it is simply another point around the circle. When lining up multiple mics or parallel signals, sweep around and listen for the position where the combined sound locks in: less comb filtering, a more natural sum, or simply the character that works best.
Phrotator rotates every frequency by the same amount while preserving its magnitude. In other words, it does not EQ, boost, thin out, warm up, or otherwise color the signal. The frequency balance stays put; only the phase relationship changes.
The processing is FFT-based and linear-phase, with a fixed latency of about 43 ms at 48 kHz. Phrotator reports that latency to the host for automatic delay compensation, and its bypass is latency-matched as well. That makes it right at home while mixing; the actual latency is worth keeping in mind when monitoring live through the plugin.
Mono and stereo are both supported. In stereo, both channels are rotated by the same angle, so the stereo image itself is preserved.
All processing is 64-bit double precision internally in both VST3 and Audio Unit formats.

Installing
- macOS
Run the installer, Phrotator-<version>.pkg. VST3 and Audio Unit are both installed unless you press Customize and uncheck one.
- VST3 (Windows)
copy Phrotator.vst3 to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\
- VST3 (Linux)
copy Phrotator.vst3 to ~/.vst3/
Your host may need a plug-in rescan, or a restart, before it appears. Phrotator is listed under the Tools category.
